William Daviau places his contextual and conceptual photographic practice in dialogue with a simple yet effective premise: to make images that convey the vulnerability of life. In a contemporary realm increasingly defined by post-truth narrative and visual saturation, Daviau’s work acts as a reminder that photography’s most powerful aspect is to reflect and elevate our way of living. Sometimes excessively banal, other times delicate and intimate, Daviau’s photographic process does not retain factuality but rather maintains integrity in the elaboration of new narratives. Often seeking poetry in the slightest occurrence of his surroundings, his pictures become imperfect objects that offer a sense of gratitude and wonder toward the world.
William Daviau is a Canadian photographer based in Tiohtià:ke / Montréal (Canada) who, in 2023, obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography at Concordia University. His work has been shown in several group shows across Quebec, including the Momenta Biennale of Imagery satellite program (2023), The Festival Regarde (2023), the Maison de la Culture Janine-Sutto (2022), and the Quartier des Spectacles of Montreal (2021). In 2023, he was awarded the Gabor Szilasi Laureate for his outstanding academic distinction in the Fine Arts program and was the inaugural winner of the Bank of Montreal Scholarship in 2021.
